Hillary Clinton has blamed James Comey for shaking up the 2016 election in the final stretch

President Donald Trump came out swinging Friday, lodging a remarkable series of claims and accusations about a new watchdog report about the Justice Department's investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of emails.

President Donald Trump speaks to reporters at the White House, Friday, June 15, 2018, in Washington. There was no obstruction.

Trump issued his comments about the report Friday morning on Twitter, insisting that Comey would "now officially go down as the worst leader, by far, in the history of the Federal Bureau of Investigation". "And I don't think it's right".

The inspector general's probe focused on decisions made by Comey, at key moments during the campaign, to go public with the FBI's findings, sidestepping then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

The president's lawyers want to paint Comey's firing as something he was both authorized to do under the Constitution and correct to do based on Comey's performance.

Trump said Friday, as he has before, that the Mueller probe, too, "has been totally discredited".

The United States Justice Department on Thursday issued a report with respect to the case of Hillary Clinton's mail server. It also faulted him for alerting Congress days before the 2016 election that the investigation was being reopened because of newly discovered emails.

Judgments on how the report would impact Trump's legal future predictably broke down along party lines.

"No, I'm not going to say anything", he said, laughing. "The OIG makes clear that we've got some work to do".

U.S. pulls 2 more from Cuba amid new potential health cases
President Donald Trump, which has partly rolled back a detente with Cuba, responded past year by sharply drawing down U.S. State Department reported two Cuba-based functionaries had symptoms similar to previous cases that began in late 2016.

But Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Democrat from CT, declared that "any effort to use this report as an excuse for shutting down the special counsel's investigation is both disingenuous and unsafe". It also doesn't say whether Trump tried to obstruct justice by firing James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

"FBI Agent Peter Strzok, who headed the Clinton & Russia investigations, texted to his lover Lisa Page, in the IG Report, that "we'll stop" candidate Trump from becoming President", Trump said in a tweet.

"The IG Report totally destroys James Comey and all of his minions including the great lovers, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, who started the disgraceful Witch Hunt against so many innocent people", Trump tweeted Saturday morning, adding, "It will go down as a dark and risky period in American History!" Right?!" Strzok responded by saying, "No.

"Under these circumstances, we did not have confidence that Strzok's decisions to prioritize the Russian Federation investigation over following up on the Midyear-related investigation lead discovered on the Weiner laptop was free from bias".

Horowitz investigated the conduct and decisions by the nation's top law enforcement officials before the 2016 election.

But the 568-page report did no such thing.

Others, though critical of Comey, believed the report helps fortify the Department of Justice against Trump's attacks.

Comey made a "serious error of judgment" in sending a letter to Congress on October 28 announcing he was reopening the investigation of Clinton's use of the server while secretary of state, the report found, and called it "extraordinary that Comey assessed that it was best" for him not to speak directly with either the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General about his decision beforehand. This is how the process is supposed to work.
