Mickelson incurs penalty after hitting moving ball

Phil Mickelson hits still-moving ball, taking big penalty and risking DQ at 2018 U.S. Open
The incident on Mickelson's 48th birthday brought to mind a similar episode by John Daly at the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. "I've had multiple times where I've wanted to do that, I just finally did".
Phil Mickelson reacts to a shot from the fescue on the fifth hole during the third round of the U.S. Open. He got off to a decent start on Saturday with three consecutive pars and then birdied the 481-yard, par-4 fourth hole to get to 1-under for the day. "He just laughed at me, he had no words to say". Mickelson hit his bogey putt well past the hole and it appeared that it might roll off the green.
Instead of waiting to see where it finished, he stopped the ball with his putter and knocked it back whence it came.
"That's the most out of character I've ever seen Phil Mickelson", Paul Azinger said on the Fox broadcast.
Although he's 10 adrift - on a Shinnecock Hills course that has punished some of the world's best - Mickelson wasn't downhearted.
