Trump announced on Thursday that he was cancelling the planned meeting with Kim, which had been slated for June 12 in Singapore.
On Sunday, Trump tweeted that a USA team had arrived in the North to make arrangements for the summit.
The original decision to abandon the historic summit blindsided South Korea which had been brokering a remarkable detente between Washington and Pyongyang after months of Kim and Trump trading insults and threats of war. "I truly believe North Korea has brilliant potential and will be a great economic and financial Nation one day". The two signed the three-page agreement at their earlier meeting, stating that "South and North Korea confirmed the common goal of realizing, through complete denuclearization, a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula", officials said Saturday. On a separate but complementary track was the CIA team Pompeo set up previous year when he headed the spy agency. "We'll see what happens", Trump told reporters.
Joe Hagin, the deputy chief of staff for operations at the White House, was scheduled to travel to Singapore this weekend to make preparations.
"We even inwardly hoped that what is called "Trump formula" would help clear both sides of their worries and comply with the requirements of our side and would be a wise way of substantial effect for settling the issue", he said.
The talks, which Moon said Kim Jong Un requested, capped a whirlwind 24 hours of diplomatic back and forth. Pyongyang said it was angry about joint military drills between the U, S. and South Korea. He then shook hands with Moon, which was the first-ever meeting between them after the Korean War ended in 1953.
Cheong Wa Dae refused to confirm any details of the latest inter-Korean summit, saying President Moon himself will explain the outcome in a press conference from 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Tensions were calmed after Moon grabbed an olive branch from Kim who offered to send a delegation to the Winter Olympics in South Korea, sparking a major detente that led to Trump agreeing to hold direct talks with Pyongyang.
Kim and Moon ended the meeting in an embrace.
Koh Yu-hwan, a North Korea expert at Seoul's Dongguk University and a policy adviser to Moon, said the South Korean president wants Kim to accept an alternative approach advocated by Seoul, in which the North's comprehensive commitment and credible actions toward denuclearization are followed by a phased but compressed process of declaration, inspection and verifiable dismantling.
"It's a fortunate thing that the possibility of the North Korea-U.S. dialogue is still alive without being terminated", Kim said in a message to reporters.
Trump scrapped the summit in a letter to Kim on Thursday after repeated threats by North Korea to pull out over what it saw as confrontational remarks by US officials demanding unilateral disarmament.
They agreed to have their top officials meet again June 1 and to set up separate talks between their top generals.
