China's Li tells S.Korea's Moon to appropriately handle THAAD issue

It was the first time a Chinese premier has met with the emperor since June 2010.

Premier Li Keqiang (C) meets with some of the former Japanese politicians who had participated in the process of making the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship in Tokyo, Japan, on May 10, 2018.

The meeting came after a three-way summit between Abe, Li and South Korean President Moon Jae-in earlier in the day, the first such three-way gathering in two and a half years.

Sun Cheng, a Japanese affairs expert at the China University of Political Science and Law, said while Li's visit was a good sign for bilateral ties, suspicions ran deep between the two sides.

He stressed that the creation of the China-Japan-South Korea free trade zone would "benefit not only East Asia, but also [would] have an external effect and stimulate negotiations on regional economic integration between the three countries and ASEAN [Association of Southeast Asian Nations]".

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has given a warm welcome to visiting Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, as they work to improve bilateral relations. He said he hoped bilateral ties improve.

Riyadh's statement, which came less than an hour after Mr Trump's decision , said it "supports and welcomes" the U.S. decision. We will remain committed to this agreement and try to do everything so that Iran also fulfills its commitments in the future".

Also, China and Japan, taking the opportunity of the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the treaty, are encouraged to hold more people-to-people exchanges, so as to bring the two peoples even closer.

The trilateral meeting was resumed after a two-and-a-half-year suspension.

Abe said bilateral relations are standing at a new starting point.

During the meeting, Li also pointed to energy efficiency, environmental protection, scientific and technological innovation, high-end manufacturing, finance, sharing economy, and gerontics services as key areas where China and Japan should enhance cooperation.

Abe called on the two sides to turn competition into coordination.

Sadayuki Sakakibara, chairman of Japan Business Federation, also took part in the event. "It does not include the Senkakus", a Japanese government official said.
