In a blog post on Friday, Microsoft finally confirmed that the newly-renamed Windows 10 April 2018 Update, what used to be known as the "Spring Update", will be available as a free download to users worldwide from 30 April, with a broader rollout kicking off on 8 May.

Timeline was originally meant to be included in the Fall Creators Update, but somehow ended up pushed to the Windows Insider programme for additional testing.

The flagship new features in the Windows 10 update include Timeline, a nifty way to keep track of what files you were working on, when, and from what devices, and Focus Assist, which makes it so you only see the notifications you want to see while you're working. Focus Assist helps users stay focused on a particular activity without being interrupted such as notifications, emails etc. Voice commands now improve upon Dictation and better management of smart home from Windows PC using Cortana.

Microsoft's not said exactly when the downloads kick in.

If that weren't enough, Microsoft has made a decision to bring improvements to its Microsoft Edge browser.

New features to Microsoft Edge browser: With the new update, Microsoft Edge browser gets an audio icon in the tab, wherein user can mute/unmute audio in a website.

Whole new Timeline feature allows users to manage their past activities including web browsing sessions, apps & software and also various activities from Microsoft apps on Android and iOS devices.

Microsoft's digital assistant, Cortana, will still be there, with new controls for the smart home. Microsoft Edge will also get new clutter-free printing option to take print-out of web pages in a cleaner format.

It even works across multiple platforms so you can serach for things you've been working on when using a phone, tablet or laptop.

Of course, these are just some of the new features set to arrive in the latest Windows 10 update, with simplified IT management tools for enterprise users, new creative features for Photos, 3D and Windows Mixed Reality and new security enhancements also on the agenda.

The new update also includes an improved dictation feature, created to make it easier for users to take a note, or write a paper, with just their voice.

With your cursor in any text field either in Windows 10 or in an app, simply press Win+H and start talking.
