K'taka polls: BJP releases 1st list of 72 candidates, only 2 women
The list was announced after a meeting of the BJP Central Election Committee at the party headquarters, chaired by party President Amit Shah.
Top Congress leaders from the state and the AICC on Monday held threadbare discussions on 100 Assembly seats falling in Belagavi and Myusru revenue divisions, identifying the party's strength and weaknesses in each constituency. Many are said to be unhappy with the list announced.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the Congress party had not yet finalised the list of candidates for the upcoming state assembly polls and that a "fake" list was in circulation to create confusion.
"Compared to BJP, we will have less rebellion".
Yeddyurappa said that the party could release its second list of candidates by 11 April.
The party's chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa will contest again from Shikaripur constituency.
They will be contesting from Shikaripura, Hubli Dharwad Central and Shivamogga Assembly seats, respectively.
With polls round the corner, national level politics will also have a bearing on Karnataka.
Among the candidates are numerous party's 48 sitting or outgoing legislators from the state's northern, central and southern region, including Bengaluru, which has 28 assembly constituencies. The state is one of the eight states that go to polls this year and will set the tone for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting, official sources said, delineated on probable candidates for over 140 seats and the names of remaining candidates are likely to be announced soon.
