Trump Says Talks With North Korea's Kim In 'May Or Early June'
North Korea has told the United States it is prepared to discuss the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula when Mr Kim meets Mr Trump, a USA official told Reuters on Sunday.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was not present at the session of the Supreme People's Assembly, the nation's top legislative body, according to the KCNA report.
Kim Jong Un's attendance is not mandatory, although in previous occasions he has made speeches at the events.
The state media, however, did not put Kim on the list of the meeting's attendees, among which were Kim Yong-nam, President of the SPA Presidium, and Choe Ryong-hae, the number-two leader of Pyongyang. But it is thought to be coming on board with the global sanctions regime to rid Pyongyang of its nuclear weapons program.
"The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea will warmly welcome the artists of the friendly neighboring country and specially greet them", it said.
Trump said on Monday he planned to meet Kim in May or early June and hoped the discussions would ultimately lead to an end of North Korea's nuclear weapons program, which Washington sees as its most pressing security threat.
North Korea's rubber-stamp parliament convened on Wednesday, weeks ahead of summits with South Korea and the U.S.
North Korea has intensified diplomatic efforts recently, at a time when inter-Korean relations have been improving since the North made a decision to take part in the February 9-25 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics hosted by the South.
At the same time, he said he was not advocating regime change for North Korea and had never done so.
