NY Trump Tower Fire On 50th Floor Out, One Injured – President Safe In DC
Four of the 200 firefighters who battled the blaze suffered minor injuries.
When President Donald Trump expressed thanks via Twitter to New York City firefighters following Saturday's deadly fire at Trump Tower, he mentioned the fire was "very confined" because the tower was a "well built building".
The president who famously owns the glitzy Fifth Avenue residential-and-retail skyscraper that bears his name, tweeted his thanks to New York's firefighters. Firemen (and women) did a great job.
Fire consumed part of the 50th floor of Trump Tower late Saturday, claiming the life of a 67-year old man who lived there.
According to ABC News, the four-alarm fire began at around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 7.
The future president backed off on panning the proposal after it was tweaked to grandfather existing buildings - such as Trump Tower - or structures for which building permits had already been filed, such as the Trump World Tower.
No members of the Trump family were at the tower during the fire, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.
Social media users slammed President Donald Trump for bragging about the sturdiness of Trump Tower in an utterly tone-deaf tweet.
The fire on Saturday was the second at Trump Tower this year.
Some fire safety advocates pushed to get a condition that elderly flat buildings be retro fitted with sprinklers if nyc passed a regulation requiring them into fresh residential high rises in 1999, but officials at the administration of then-mayor Rudy Giuliani said that wouldbe overly expensive.
The Fire Commissioner stated that apartments on the upper floors of Trump Tower do not have fire sprinklers.
Trump Tower plays home to the headquarters of the Trump Organisation as well as his home and personal office.
"It's a well-built building", Nigro said at a press conference.
"I called my oldest son and said goodbye to him because the way it looked everything was falling out of the window, and it reminded me of 9/11", she said.
