Detroit protest demands freedom for Palestinian teenager Ahed Tamimi

The Tamimi family has gained global attention after a video went viral of Muhammad's 17-year-old cousin Ahed Tamimi slapping an Israeli soldier after learning her cousin had been shot in the face.

Tamimi's father claimed in the media that his son was hit in the skull by a rubber bullet during clashes that broke out in the village of Nabi Saleh and that, as such, the doctors had to amputate part of his skull to remove the bullet.

"What began with a far-fetched attempt to claim that we are not a real family at all has now moved to the denial of documented reality", the Tamimis said. He was released upon interrogation by the police, the military confirmed.

But records from the boy's visit to the Istishari Hospital in Ramallah, released by the Tamimi family, contradict Mordechai's claim.

Mohammed Tamimi's head injury is at the center of a case that has sparked a flurry of criticism against Israel, after Ahed Tamimi, then 16, was arrested for slapping an IDF soldier and put on trial.

Currently, Ahed Tamimi and her mother Nariman Tamimi, 42, were still in custody and undergoing military court trials. About an hour after Muhammad was shot, his cousin slapped an Israeli soldier in an incident caught on camera.

Tamimi's head injury is thought to have been the catalyst for Ahed's actions. Since her arrest, Ahed Tamimi has quite literally become a poster child for the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation.

Ahed was arrested in the midnight from her house. "I could not keep quiet and I responded as I did", Tamimi testified.

The family of Muhammad Tamimi, who lost a third of his skull after being attacked by Israeli soldiers previous year, have proven wrong Israeli officials who accused them of inventing the story, according to the Times of Israel.

The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said in a statement that Israeli forces detained 10 members of the Tamimi family from the central occupied West Bank villages of Deir Nitham and Nabi Saleh.

Despite being released, Bassem told Mondoweiss that the fact that Muhammad was even arrested in the first place is indicative of Israel's disregard for basic human rights.

On Tuesday morning, Muhammad's family also released pictures of his x-ray as well as the bloodied bullet itself after it was removed from his skull. Mordechai said the 15 year old made the comments while being interrogated after his arrest on Monday.

The family also pointed out that the minor was questioned by himself, without a parent or lawyer present.
