The air was crisp but the sun was shining as hundreds flocked to downtown Newton to celebrate Irish heritage and Irish-American culture.

"My wife was not Irish, but she loved being Irish on Saint Patrick's Day", said Jack. He said he made the drive from Tulsa for the parade.

Her husband, Bill Hughes, a retired police officer who marched in the parade for 10 years, looked on as a band marched by.

The St. Patrick's Day parade takes place during one of the busiest weekends in Pittsburgh.

She was riding along the parade route in a Central Park horse carriage, driven by a family friend.
