The 2018 Commonwealth Games is set to take off from the 4th of April and will continue till the 15th.
The contingent is still to be finalized by the sports minister Rajyavardhan Rathore who was in Bengaluru on Wednesday. It has removed 21 names from the list already, including the Chief Medical Officer and an assistant physiotherapist of the IOA, besides other officials of the National Sports Federations (NSFs). "It is very unfortunate that the government does not grasp the importance of these officials", said Batra, adding that nobody was on a pleasure trip.
"As per the CWG rules, 74 officials, one-third of the total squad, are permitted". We called these as extra officials but in fact these are not extra officials. Preparation going great and I'm giving my 100 per cent, training twice a day", Sakshi told PTI from SAI Centre in Lucknow.According to her coach Kuldeep Singh Malik, her leg defence has improved and that will help her hold and attack."It's a work in progress till we achieve 100 per cent. "The federations are paying for them", he said. Minister of state for home, Kiren Rijiju, was also present.
Batra had a telephonic conversation with Rathore, who is now in Bangalore on an official visit, after the send-off ceremony of the CWG contingent.
Even though an official statement was not released, those included in the list of non-clearance were the mothers of Saina Nehwal and P.V Sindhu.
Batra said that it is the ministry who should shoulder the responsibility if an athlete underperfoms in such a scenario. At the Incheon Asian Games (2014) a manager for the boxing contingent was not cleared.
"Some federations have asked us to accommodate coaches as their quota was full so we have sanctioned 10 such extra coaches who are essential for players. What business do they have?" They are cutting down the physician's name.
"We have key worldwide events lined up throughout the year and a performance like this by youngsters of the squad bodes well", Raninder Singh said.
"I don't know why the sports ministry is raising these unnecessary issues".
"There's no cheapening of it, and I feel so honoured knowing that my voice is the one you can hear".
"It was a tough decision with so many worthy applicants, but the six who were chosen stood out for their personality, attitude and appreciation of the high-performance sporting environment", says Eric.
India will have to rise above this row in Australia.
