How Siri leaks your private iPhone messages, and how to stop her

Major Siri bug exposes all your hidden Signal messages on iPhone
The bug worked with WhatsApp and a couple of more third-party apps.
A Brazilian Mac magazine - it's called MacMagazine - claims to have uncovered a security hole in iOS 11. Luckily, Apple is aware of the issue and has promised it has a fix in the works.
Apple famously gives release dates for its security updates by actually releasing them, hiding behind its official policy that "for our customers' protection, Apple doesn't disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available".
MacRumours replicated the bug on an iPhone X in its own tests, between iOS 11.2.6 and the current iOS 11.3 beta. If you are an iPhone X owner, you should be aware that out of the box, the smartphone hides the notification content in lock screen.
Now, if you want to read notifications, you have to unlock the phone using Face ID, a password, or some other form of authentication. Do the same thing for the other apps that you don't want to send you notifications on the lock screen. Without checking if it was the user issuing the command, Siri would begin to reel off all of the notifications aloud, including those designated as hidden. Try living without Siri - she's been implicated in several security bypass bugs before, so why take the risk unless you really need Apple's voice recognition services?
The company is yet to provide a timeline for the update, but users in the meantime can go ahead and disable Siri when the phone is locked to ensure that hidden notifications remain private.
According to Reuters, which was provided copies of Apple's developer agreement, app makers have to get "clear and conspicuous consent" from users before collecting or storing face data, and can only do so for a "legitimate feature" of an app. Apparently, this setting correctly stops Siri from reading out messages at the lockscreen.
Under the "When Unlocked" setting, you can choose from "Always" and 'Never'.
