Meet the 2019 GMC Sierra AT4: Lifted and loaded
The 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 blends off-road hardware into a modern, thoroughly updated pickup truck that doesn't skimp on power, luxury, or safety equipment. An off-road read version of the popular pickup truck which Vice President of Global GMC Duncan Aldred says will be affixed to every vehicle in the GMC portfolio lineup in the next two years.
The Sierra AT4 adds a two-inch factory suspension lift, specially-tuned shock absorbers, skid plates and tow hooks to the freshly redesigned 2019 Sierra that debuted earlier this month.
Additionally, the Sierra AT4 will be available with the GMC-exclusive CarbonPro bed that trades standard steel inner panels and floor in favor of a carbon fiber composite that is created to offer dent, scratch and corrosion resistance. That black chrome also adorns the LED foglamp bezels, while the window trim, mirror caps and skid plate are done in black gloss.
Just as the Denali subbrand has helped GMC lure more upscale buyers, the brand is counting on the new AT4 subbrand to draw off-road enthusiasts who might not consider GMC or defect to another light-truck brand, such as Jeep.
The 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 will go on sale in the fall. Inside, the interior is decorated with dark-tinted black accenting and textured aluminum. A head-up display offers information including an inclinometer - showing fore and aft tilt, front tire angle, and left and right tilt - on the windshield. The ProGrade Trailering System and related smartphone app also will be optional, as will 360-degree camera function displayed on the multimedia screen.
The CarbonPro box combined with our MultiPro Tailgate makes the task of loading and unloading objects such as motorcycles or quads much easier than ever before. Off-road traction is compounded by 32-inch Goodyear DuraTrac off-road tires mounted to custom 18-inch wheels. Bumpers, door handles, and grille shell are body colored, and a pair of vertically mounted front towhooks are painted red.
That's where the AT4 comes in. The cargo boxes offer best-in-class cargo volume of 63 cubic feet (1,784 liters) on the short box and continues to be made of roll-formed, high-strength steel, yet a revised alloy offers 50 percent more strength than the current model.
Sierra AT4 features new versions of the proven 6.2L and 5.3L V-8 engines along with all-new Duramax 3.0L inline-six turbo-diesel engine.
The V-8 engines feature stop-start technology and GM's new Dynamic Fuel Management that enables the engine to operate on one to eight cylinders, depending on demand, to optimize power and efficiency. The mission of the newly-created line is to add capability to GMC's reputation for comfort, according to the company.
