Mane stars with a hat-trick as Liverpool thrash Porto 5-0

Dejan Lovren says Liverpool believe they can win Champions League

A Sadio Mané hat-trick, plus goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, made Liverpool all but certain of progression to the last eight as the Portuguese league leaders were blown away at the Estadio do Dragao.

Last night's 5 goal demolition of FC Porto in the Champions League pushed the reds onto 99 goals in all competitions this season, making not only this season to date Liverpool's most prolific but also the manager too.

Mane got his third with a driven strike late on to become the first Liverpool player to score a hat-trick away from home in Europe since Michael Owen in 2002, and the second ever. "Yes, if we are right and we do our job like we did and everyone defends well", he said.

The 37-year-old also hailed the teamwork of the current group, saying: "The work rate of this Liverpool team is very, very special, and you also notice how unselfish they are". I think (Andy) Robertson played an outstanding game, finally he found his crosses, I thought they were in Scotland or somewhere which was good to see.

Ronaldo scored a goal in each half as Real Madrid came from behind to defeat PSG 3-1 in their first-leg match in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday, taking a commanding lead into the second leg in Paris on March 6.

"It is good when they don't talk about us".

When James Milner's shot crashed back off the post his team-mate seized on the loose ball, flicking it up up twice with his left foot, nodding it on and then forcing home from close range.

Dennis Wise believes Mohamed Salah did not make the grade at Chelsea because of one reason.

"Congratulations, but hopefully it won't stop".

All three front men scored in a performance that started deliberately, with Liverpool growing in dominance as play progressed.

The Senegalese marked his return on the elite European stage with three superb goals, his hat-trick put Liverpool in pole position and there was no seeing back from there.

But that was a rare bright spot for Porto as Liverpool dominated after half-time and regularly threatened on the counter-attack.

"But with five teams in the Champions League, you have to be looking at least one to the final or hopefully two, so that we can have an English victor".
