A former Major League Baseball pitcher has been charged in San Diego County with transporting over 40 pounds of what is believed to be cocaine.
Earlier today, former Yankees right-hander Esteban Loaiza was arrested in San Diego with almost 50 pounds of cocaine and heroin. While Cubillan appeared in just 13 games for the Rangers - all in 2000 - Young retired as the Rangers all-time leader in hits and one of the most popular players in team history. Loaiza's arrest in 2006 prompted the A's to no longer stock alcohol in either the home or visiting clubhouses.
"He basically told my assistant that he would call back", Boggs said, "and the next thing I know, this (Monday's report) hit". He said Monday that Loaiza tried to reach him last Wednesday at his office, but Boggs was unavailable.
Based on that evidence, a search warrant was obtained for the home which Loiaza has been renting in Imperial Beach. His auto is believed to be used in a drug smuggling operation.
Officers found a sophisticated compartment used to hide contraband when searching Loaiza's vehicle, which led them to obtain a search warrant for his rental home.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department reported that authorities had been closely watching Loazia prior to his arrest. Two months later, she died in a plane crash in northern Mexico.
The 46-year-old was booked on Friday. She was perhaps the most successful female singer in grupero, a male-dominated Mexico regional style, sold more than 15 million records, and moved into acting and reality television. The couple were in the process of a divorce at the time of Rivera's death.
