Klaasen and Duminy half-centuries set up T20 decider
India shall be taking on South African in the second of the three-match T20 series at Centurion on Wednesday.
7- Sixes hit by Klaasen in his match-winning innings, which are the joint third-most by any batsman against India in T20Is.
Klassen (69 of 30) and Duminy (64 of 40) were the top scorers for the Proteas as they stabilised the batting after a sluggish start. Chahal, Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur too picked a wicket each.
With both opener back in the pavilion after five overs, the hosts seemed to be in deep trouble.
South African cricket's latest hero, Heinrich Klaasen, says that his dream is fulfilled, even if he hasn't done enough to command a regular place in the Proteas limited overs set-up.
Dhawan continued smacking the ball and reached his half-century off 27 balls. "The way JP told me to go, this over needs to go for 20, it takes all the fear out of your game". He and Raina added another 45 runs to the total before Raina was declared lbw off Andile Phehlukwayo's bowling in the 11th over. Klaasen and Duminy really batted well. SA now needed only 12 runs and the captain was on strike. He made 26 in the first match and was dismissed for 1 in the second Twenty20 in Centurion, leaving him needing 17 runs to join the club of Martin Guptill (2271) and Brendon McCullum (2140), who are the only batsmen to date to have 2000 runs in the shortest format.
E. This was India’s highest ever total against the Proteas. The previous best was 199 in Dharamshala
In the absence of injured veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami, the onus was on young fast bowler Pooja Vastrakar to lead the attack and she did it with aplomb picking up two wickets, giving away just 21 runs from her four overs. While Pandey struck six boundaries and three sixes during his knock, Dhoni was not far behind his younger partner as he found the fence four times and over it thrice. The umpire had initially ruled the left-hander out but had to reverse his decision after television replays revealed a clear inside edge.
But once the duo departed, the Indian middle-order collapsed like a house of cards.
Behardien played a small yet valuable knock of 16 runs off just 10 deliveries in a partnership of 58 runs with Duminy towards the end of the run chase.
"For instance, today we bowled a lot of slow balls".
It was Manish Pandey hit the headlines back then after becoming the first Indian batsman to score a century in the IPL and now after nearly ten years, he endured a bittersweet return to the venue on Wednesday (February 22).
