Marvel's Standalone 'Black Widow' Movie Gains Momentum With Jac Schaeffer Writing
And rumours of a Black Widow solo movie have been on-going for years, but mostly from eager fans - as the studio and Scarlett Johansson have made it clear that at the moment, they had no concrete plans for the character.
However, as reported by The Wrap, "Blacklist" screenwriter Schaeffer has been hired by Marvel to work on a script, suggesting it could eventually become a reality. She's also known for writing a script that has been called Nasty Women (though it has yet to get an official title), the upcoming remake of the film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, with the cast led by women, including Hathaway.
According to Variety's sources, the project is still in the very early stages of development and has yet to be greenlit by the studio.
Black Widow/ Natasha Romanoff was first introduced in Iron Man 2.
It's finally happening! The most fan-requested Marvel movie of them all is finally, slowly, moving forward. But Variety says Feige met with several writers before choosing Schaeffer, who was on the prestigious Black List for her comedy The Shower, which has Anne Hathawayattached. They have been keeping very tight lipped about the films that will be in Phase Four after Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel, which is now filming, are completed.
Johansson's Black Widow will next appear in the highly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War, which arrives in Australia on April 25 and opens in the USA on May 4. She rose to popularity after she showcased her unique talents as an agent on "Avengers" and other subsequent films that focus on the heroic team.
Should Black Widow make it to production, it's likely the film will be part of Marvel's next phase of movies which are kicking off with Black Panther in February.
Are you excited about Marvel developing a Black Widow movie? She'll reprise her Black Widow role once again in Avengers: Infinity War, out this May. What can Black Widow do to stop these threats?
Marvel Studios simply kept sidelining Black Widow to supporting roles that ranged from empathetic superspy at best (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) to appallingly embarrassing love interest at worst (Avengers: Age of Ultron). Within the juggernaut franchise, through films of varying quality, she's evolved into a complex character, whose loyalty and choices can determine the outcome of the fiercest battles.
