The Oakland Raiders' head coach from 2008-2010, Cable has led one of the weakest offensive lines in the National Football League over the past seven seasons. The Seahawks finished 15th in total offense (330.4 yards per game) and 11th in scoring (22.9 points) this season, but struggled to move the ball in a Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Rams and a Week 16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
In 2017, the Seahawks finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2011 campaign.
"We've already seen how that goes", he explained to reporters. We don't execute as a team. But Bevell became an exceedingly unpopular figure among Seahawks fans, especially after Seattle lost Super Bowl XLIX to the New England Patriots on an interception at the goal line, costing them a second straight world championship.
Much of Seattle's offensive success this season was due to quarterback Russell Wilson, who threw for 3,983 yards and an NFL-leading 34 touchdowns. You guys (media) can blame Bev all you want to, but the truth of the matter is, Bev is not the problem. The Seahawks appeared in back-to-back Super Bowls in 2013 and 2014, winning Super Bowl XLVIII to earn the franchise its first ever Lombardi Trophy.
It's unclear who the Seahawks will turn to as a replacement for Bevell. The former Washington and USC coach worked for Carroll with the Trojans. Sarkisian's ties with Carroll and familiarity with a similar offense could make him a possible option.
And another could be Mike Shula, who was sacked as offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers earlier this week and was the head coach at Alabama from 2003-06.
