US Rep. Frederica Wilson will not attend his State of the Union address
Hillary Clinton "overruled" a recommendation made by top aides to fire her faith adviser, Burns Strider, after he was accused of sexually harassing a young female subordinate.
"It was reassuring to hear that she felt supported back then - and that all these years later, those feelings haven't changed", Clinton wrote. Adding that she called her to let her know how proud she was of her. The alleged harassment by Strider included inappropriate touching, kissing and sending suggestive emails.
The presidential candidate's staff, meanwhile, reassigned the victim and made her sign a nondisclosure agreement. The woman shared an office with Strider.
"She's read every word of this and has given me permission to share it", Clinton wrote.
Just minutes before President TrumpDonald John TrumpCynthia Nixon calls for Americans to "take to the streets" if Trump fires Mueller Trump declines to implement new Russian Federation sanctions Comey praises McCabe: He "stood tall" while "small people" tried to tear down the FBIMORE's first State of the Union address, Clinton posted a lengthy explanation on her Facebook page, in which she said that she would not make the same choice if faced with the situation again. "It was the wrong call. But I expected standing up for a woman on her staff to be one of her strengths". Noah blasted Clinton saying, "This guy, Strider, he went on to get another job in Democratic politics where he got fired for doing the same thing to other women".
"Yes", Doyle replied, "I mean I feel a great deal of regret that I didn't fight harder, I didn't push harder for him to be fired". "I do not put this forward as a virtue or a vice - just as a fact about how I view these matters".
People close to Strider say he was a key adviser to Clinton, and he would often be the go-between setting up conversations with faith leaders like megachurch pastor Rick Warren's wife, Kay Warren, and popular author and speaker Tony Campolo. "You know, weaknesses", Noah began. "I do find it authentic".
Clinton makes no mention of her husband's affair or the accusations against him in the message. Unfortunately, we failed her. He was docked pay and suspended to seek treatment and counseling. In retrospect, that was the wrong call, and I am sorry for not taking stronger action. What a shameful display of hypocrisy on Hillary Clinton's part.
"To ensure a safe working environment, the campaign had a process to address complaints of misconduct or harassment", the statement said.
Garber noted Clinton used her law firm to deliver a response several steps removed from her "with the clinical language of corporate callousness".
Strider led an independent group that supported Clinton's 2016 candidacy called Correct the Record, but he was sacked after several months for workplace issues, including allegations that he harassed a young female aide, according to the Times's report. "Most of these decisions worked out well".
In her post Tuesday evening, Mrs. Clinton also noted that it was a different time in 2008. "The norms around sexual harassment will likely have continued to change as swiftly and significantly in the years to come as they have over the years until now". "But you can bet I'm asking myself these questions right now", she wrote.
So the MeToo movement has really brought to light how pervasive sexual harassment of women is.
"I've been given second chances and I have given them to others", Clinton wrote.
