Honda, Volvo, Lincoln: Awarded Car, Truck & Utility Vehicles Of Year At Detroit Auto Show

Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator, Volvo XC60 named vehicles of the year at Detroit auto show

The award caps a positive year for Ford trucks, which saw a 4.3-percent annual pop in segment sales, and a poor term for the Lincoln brand, which saw a 17-percent sales decline.

The Honda Accord has won the latest battle against its archrival, the Toyota Camry.

The 2018 Honda Accord, Volvo XC60 and Lincoln Navigator won North American Vehicle of the Year honours Monday at the Detroit auto show.

It's the first auto of the year award for all three nameplates, although Honda and Volvo have both won the award recently. The Navigator fell behind the curve for a long time and many people forgot it was the first full-size luxury SUV, but with the Navigator's bold new styling, they won't forget it again.

The Utility Vehicle of the Year award was introduced in January 2017, with the Windsor-made Chrysler Pacifica being the first honouree in the new category's history.

Awards such as these, which are voted on by a panel of almost 60 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada, are important for the automakers.

The choices represent an aim to recognize the vehicles' overall quality: The judges evaluate finalists on value, innovation, design, performance, safety, technology and driver satisfaction.

Organizers accept no advertising, though automakers try to capitalize on the marketing value of the awards, which are now in their 24th year.
