WWE wrestler Rich Swann arrested on charges of battering wife

The 26-year-old Swann has been wrestling professionally since 2008, and became a star on the indie circuit, competing for promotions such as Chikara, Dragon Gate, Evolve, and Full Impact Pro.

Swann made his WWE television debut in January 2016, and would go on to participate in the Cruiserweight Classic tournament that was held during the summer of past year.

On the first-ever episode in November 2016 on 205 Live he claimed the Cruiserweight title when he defeated Brian Kendrick for the strap. Swann has been a steady fixture on the show since.

Swann, who was last seen on WWE TV on Tuesday when he defeated Tony Nese, was reported to be held in custody at the Alachua County Jail. The battery charges are in relation to Swann allegedly putting his wife, female wrestler Su Yung (real name Vannarah Riggs) in a headlock and dragging her. Prior to this Yung told police she'd asked Swann to pull over the auto. Swan chased after Yung and yelled for her to return to the auto, but she refused and began to walk away. One witness stated the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion got his wife "in a headlock" and push her back in the vehicle.

Another witness, the complaint said, saw Swann "driving erratically" and a woman "jump out of the vehicle while it was moving and run away".

The vehicle continued to roll until it crashed into a telephone pole, the report said.

Powell's POV: Swann denied getting physical with Riggs despite the eye witness reports. The former charge is third-degree felony, while the second is a first-degree misdemeanor.
