Indianapolis To Host 2022 College Football Championship
We're still a long way from the ultimate decision of who will play in the College Football Playoff, but it's clear that the committee has their finger on the pulse of what's going on and it seems that the Tigers will keep a better strength of schedule and record for the rest of the season over a team like Ohio State.
It is almost a sure bet that Ohio State will be ranked higher than Oklahoma when the initial CFP rankings come out. The Crimson Tide would be favored if the SEC championship game was this week.
Those first six teams control their own destiny. We should be able to see just how serious this Georgia team is when they face a tough test next weekend at Auburn.
Georgia was the lone slip-up for Notre Dame, which has caught fire as of late. The Sooners' only loss came while ranked No. 3 against then-unranked Iowa State in Norman, a defeat that knocked Oklahoma out of the top 10 in the AP poll. So it was those two victories that really gave Georgia the ever-slight edge over Alabama this week.
The Sooners and Cowboys square off in the annual Bedlam game at 3 p.m. Saturday on Fox Sports 1. Notre Dame 4. Clemson 5.
The championship game will be played on Jan. 8 in Atlanta at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That can change this week, as Alabama hosts No. 19 LSU.
Its sole mandate is to pick the nation's four best teams, regardless of conference or geography, he said. Notre Dame on the other hand has beaten three teams currently in the top 25 by 20 or more points. Oklahoma, which beat Ohio State in Week 2, is at No. 5, the first team out of the playoff if it began today.
Why not Oklahoma (7-1)? Yet, the committee isn't buying the Badgers' non-conference schedule of Utah State, BYU and Florida Atlantic. Washington is the conference's highest-ranked team and the Huskies are ranked at No. 12.
Let's be blunt, these rankings don't matter. The committee recognized that Clemson played the second half of that game without injured quarterback Kelly Bryant. Time will tell just how serious of a contender that the Miami Hurricanes are this season. The Pac-12 may not. "If our players think anything of it, then that could be a problem and an issue, too". That's not a good playoff combination. Every SEC West team except Arkansas has appeared among the top four.
