Miller's longtime collaborator Jeff Fowler will make the project his feature film directional debut. Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons of DJ2 Entertainment will serve as co-producers.

Sonic the Hedgehog was initially confirmed as a live-action/computer animated hybrid film in 2014. Are you excited to see the Blue Speedster on the big screen?

After reading the Sonic the Hedgehog movie announcement there's only one question worth asking: Will Sonic the Hedgehog be the first great video game movie?

Fans who might be anxious about the change of hands from #Sony to Paramount Pictures will be pleased to know that the latter will be retaining the original team for the untitled project.

The movie will be a blend of CGI and live-action, similar to Roger Rabbit and The Smurfs. Later games in the franchise added a little more story and mythology to Sonic's background, as well as additional characters like Knuckles and Shadow. Miller will be busy directing the sixth Terminator film which is due out in 2019. After Moritz left Sony for Paramount he made securing the rights to Sonic the Hedgehog one of his first orders of business. In fact, the Archie Comics Sonic the Hedgehog comic holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-running comic book series that's based on a video game.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a legendary icon of gaming, still going strong since his debut on the Sega Genesis video game console over 25 years ago.
