Polestar 1 Drops Its Top In The Virtual World

Polestar unveils their first car as an independent company

Polestar and Volvo will upend modern car ownership

Polestar 1 also received a phone-as-key ("phone as a key") which allows you to open the vehicle using the app on the smartphone.

The Polestar 1 is a hybrid, but Polestar is clearly emphasizing the all-electric half of the powertrain, since Polestar's focus as a brand will be on fully electric vehicles.

"Polestar 1 is the first vehicle to carry the Polestar on the bonnet", said Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer of Volvo's Polestar, as reported by Carscoops.

Polestar 1 hybrid coupe will launch in 2019 and will be sold online by subscription.

Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer of Polestar, said: "Polestar 1 is the first auto to carry the Polestar on the bonnet". On Thursday, the new Polestar revealed its future as a standalone electric performance brand.

Volvo and parent company Geely intend for Polestar and Volvo to collaborate and develop synergies that will benefit both. It is also the world's first vehicle to be fitted with the Öhlins Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension (CESi) advanced chassis technology.

Polestar is now building a new, state-of-the-art production facility in Chengdu, China, part of a US$750 million investment from Volvo and Geely Holding. All Polestar cars will be signed on with a 2 or 3-year subscription at an all-inclusive monthly payment. Plans call for construction to be completed by mid-2018, with Polestar 1 production to follow in mid-2019.

"Most electric cars are fast - that's a product of the attributes of an electric motor", says Ingenlath.

The Polestar 1 features dual electric motors putting out a combined 215 BHP that power the rear wheels. However, this year it seems like companies are vying to have a part in the electric vehicle (EV) market that Tesla first dug up. However, Polestar also recognises that customers still want to physically engage with the brand so Polestar will open a network of Polestar Spaces around the world. In 2020, Polestar will launch the Polestar 2, a small electric sedan that will challenge the Tesla Model 3. The costs will include insurance and maintenance.

This is where future Polestar customers can interact with products and the brand.
