9-5 to grab a 1-0 lead in their National League Division Series matchup and snap a six-game losing streak to the Diamondbacks. Arizona was coming into the series having just scored a win in the Wild Card round against the Colorado Rockies. The only two starters who did not get a hit were Catcher Yasmani Grandal and Leftfielder Curtis Granderson, each were hitless in four at-bats with two strikeouts. But it's still striking that in his 89 innings of postseason work, Kershaw has a 4.55 ERA, which is sky-high when compared to his truly astounding 2.36 career ERA.
In terms of head-to-head meetings in 2017, Kershaw went 2-0 with a ridiculous 0.59 ERA and 0.59 WHIP in two starts against the D-Backs this year (both starts came pre-injury), while Walker made three starts against the Dodgers, going 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 17 punchouts in 16.2 innings.
Hill's been effective against the D-backs, holding current Arizona players to a slash line of just.207/.270/.413. You want to win them all, but when you've got Keshaw on the mound in Game 1, to get that out of the way, we're feeling pretty good about it.
Can Dodgers win again?
Saturday's Game 2 will feature two dueling lefties. The four home runs made Kershaw the first Dodger ever to allow four home runs in a postseason game.
"I thought he was outstanding and challenged guys, pitching with the lead, like he should", Turner said.
Roberts removed Kershaw after he allowed homers to Ketel Marte and Jeff Mathis on back-to-back pitches with one out in the seventh. Zack Godley ran into trouble in the fourth inning, allowing three runs on a pair of run-scoring singles by Corey Seager and Justin Turner and a productive out from Yasiel Puig. Pitchers will take solo shots any day of the week especially if they have big leads as Kershaw did.
Turner's three-run homer sparked a four-run opening frame in which the first five Dodgers reached base safely.
But Seager hit an RBI triple in the eighth, and Turner drove him home.
"We wanted to put the pitcher's back against the wall", Turner said, whose five RBIs in this game tied a Brooklyn-Los Angeles franchise mark for most RBIs in one post-season contest.
