AMBER Alert for 3-year-old Texas girl discontinued
October 24 2017, 03:59 | Irvin Gilbert
Amber Alert issued for missing 3-year-old girl in N. Texas
Though the Amber Alert has "timed out", the search for the child continues.
Investigators say 3-year-old Sherin Mathews was last seen by her father around 3 a.m.in the 900 block of Sunningdale in Richardson, Texas. "At approximately 3:15 a.m., he went back to the spot where he directed his daughter to stay and she was gone".
Mathews didn't call to report his daughter missing until five hours later, according to Perlich, who was unavailable for additional comment early Monday.
Police believe she's in grave or immediate danger.
Richardson Police announced Saturday evening at Wesley Mathews, the father of the missing child, had been arrested and was charged with abandoning or endangering a child.
He posted bond and was released from jail on Sunday. The neighbor also said that roughly 18 months ago, the couple adopted Sherin from India.
As it stands, city, county and state law enforcement are all working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to try and find little Sherin Mathews.
The Dallas Morning News reported that coyotes have been spotted in the area where Sherin was last seen.
Members of the family's church gathered outside of the home Saturday afternoon and said the girl's parents were being interviewed at police headquarters.
Police are looking for any evidence they can. Her hair was described as being in two long braids.
"That does not seem like a normal response that one would do if you have a missing child", Perlich said.
