Leonardo DiCaprio Donates $1 Million to Hurricane Relief Efforts

Hurricane Harvey: Disney & KTRK-TV Houston Commit $1M For Relief Efforts; Set 'Day Of Giving'

Generous gift Leonardo Di Caprio has donated $1 million via his charitable foundation to the newly established United Way Harvey Recovery Fund it was announced Wednesday

While the Oscar victor was the first celebrity to help Harvey relief efforts, he is not the last notorious character to do so.

The actor donated the amount to the United Way Harvey Recovery Fund, a new fundraising program that was recently launched for the recovery efforts in the affected areas.

Brian Gallagher, the President and CEO of United Way Worldwide, shared, "We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Leonardo DiCaprio and his foundation".

"Responding to Hurricane Harvey requires the best of all of us-and that's what this gift represents", he said.

The Oscar victor is the first to make a donation to the United Way Harvey Recovery Fund.

Thursday morning, Leonardo DiCaprio pledged $1 million to the United Way Harvey Recovery Fund, Variety reported. Other celebrities who have pledged contributions are Chris Brown, Kevin Hart, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Actor Jensen Ackles, $50,000 to Random Acts.

DeGeneres invited Watt to her talk show to inform her audience of his relief plan.

Rapper T.I. said he would contribute $25,000 to aiding Hurricane Harvey victims, but not through the Red Cross.

Electronic music duo The Chainsmokers, $30,000 to the American Red Cross.

DJ Khaled and Nicki Minaj joined in with $US25,000 donations. The organization has a network of 1,800 community offshoots around the world, 23 of which are located in the path of Hurricane Harvey.

Additionally, Solange, Fall Out Boy and Bun B have all planned separate benefit concerts.

Houston rapper Bun B and music manager Scooter Braun are organizing a benefit concert to support those affected by Harvey, tentatively scheduled to air on U.S. TV networks on September 12.

Houston is the hometown of worldwide pop singer Beyonce.

Jamie Foxx is doing his part by hosting a star-studded telethon to raise money for relief and rebuilding efforts, and stars like Reese Witherspoon and Blake Shelton will be manning the phones.
