After being whitewashed in the longer format of the game, Sri Lanka is set for a tough Test against the Indian cricket team in the ODI series starting from today.

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar said that his best wishes are always with the Indian team. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is in serious trouble though the country is already qualified to be in the 2019 World Cup still Sri Lanka's feedback and appearances' in the World Cup of 2009 is depends on how the country will be performed in this ODI series of 2017. If he has to enter directly for the World Tournament, then India will have to win at least two One Day Internationals. The cut-off date for direct qualification is 30 September.

Having been put in to bat first, Sri Lanka got off to strong start, but after losing Niroshan Dickwella in the 25th over, wickets started to tumble for the hosts.

They were looking mighty impressive in the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this summer before coming undone against arch-rivals Pakistan in the final.

India to win the first ODI match.

India thrashed Sri Lanka by 9 wickets in the first ODI in Dambulla on Sunday; Chasing 217, Dhawan added 197-run partnership with captain Virat Kohli and ended the proceedings in 28.5 overs.

Axar Patel claimed three wickets, proven a good work for the team and helped the Team India in winning the match. The three youngsters will look to impress in the limited opportunities. The Mumbai duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur too are not a part of the playing XI. Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar (13th) is the lone Indian in top 15.

On the batting front, Karnataka middle-order batsman Manish Pandey is expected to bat at No.5.

"The only way he can survive till 2019 World Cup is by keep on performing". Skipper Kohli takes his number 3 position followed by Prasad's words to bat KL at 4. Kohli's comments come at an interesting time, when questions are being raised about the future of old warhorses Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh.

Former captain Angelo Mathews tried to stick around with the lower-order but eventually ran out of partners to be stranded on 36. Lasith Malinga will also be available but his recent decline in terms of ferocity is a liability for the captain, who needs to make the hard decision of phasing out a legend and very senior member of the team.

In the same passage of play, Bumrah cleaned up Thisara Perera (0) with a handsome yorker and Lanka's hopes of a challenging total all but vanished. The three-man pace attack also includes uncapped Vishwa Fernando and Dushmantha Chameera while the spin attack is led by Lakshan Sandakan supported by Wanindu Hasaranga, Akila Dananjaya and uncapped Malinda Pushpakumara.
