Doubts? Not anymore

Praising India's clinical performance at Galle which saw the visitors take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match Test series against Sri Lanka, Dada expects the hosts to continue struggling in the remainder of the series as well.

Galle: Sri Lanka pacer Nuwan Pradeep has expressed delight at taking the prized scalp of Indian captain Virat Kohli after bagging his maiden five wicket haul in Tests on day two of the series-opener.

Chasing an improbable 550, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 245 in their second innings, thus handing over India their biggest overseas win in terms of runs.

Niroshan Dickwella went about his innings with a short-format mindset and scored a quick but edgy 48 from 77 balls. "I think the second innings required us to play a bit more positively and I am glad I was able to do that along with Abhinav Mukund".

Admitting that Sri Lanka needed to come out with better plans against Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, the stand-in captain rued bringing Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav, India's Pacers, into the equation. But obviously you can not guarantee anything, ? he added.

Spare a thought for Sri Lanka though.

"We'll have to eventually take a call on who plays in the next Test and I'm sure the third guy will understand whatever the call is taken by the team", the skipper said.

Shikhar Dhawan was all set to leave for Melbourne to join up with his Australia-based wife and family when the call to replace the injured Murali Vijay in the Indian Test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. The surface did not offer much, and that's why the win is special.

Kusal Mendis (36) did well until he poked at one from Jadeja and got a faint edge through the keeper, with Kohli opting to review after a not out decision on the field, ultraedge provided confirmation of a noise as the ball past the bat. His second innings was marginally better than the first as he got a start before succumbing leg before to Trent Boult for 17 runs. But an unperturbed Kohli raced away to his ton as India looted 51 runs in the 6.3 overs they played in the morning. "I was really happy to hear that and overall we have a very nice environment".

He would last just ten deliveries in the first innings before being bowled for just one run by pacer Matt Henry.

Chandimal took over from Angelo Mathews as Test skipper earlier this month but missed the first Test after he was hospitalised due to pneumonia. "That's an area that we need to work on moving forward". "There is a very healthy competition from the opening spot in the side, and it keeps me on my toes", Dhawan who was adjudged the man-of-the-match said.
