North Korea denies torturing American detainee Otto Warmbier

But it's unclear how he came to be in that state.

Sun said that he was unfamiliar with the hotel hallway that appeared in the surveillance tape released by North Korean officials allegedly showing Warmbier's removing a poster from the wall.

The 22-year-old died on June 20 in Cincinnati, Ohio, with his family at his side.

"The fact that Warmbier died suddenly in less than a week just after his return to the USA in his normal state of health indicators is a mystery to us as well", state-run KCNA news reported.

The article published by the official Korean Central News Agency was Pyongyang's first reaction to the death of Warmbier. It said that the public opinion Warmbier had died due to beating and torture was "groundless".

"The fact that Warmbier died suddenly in less than a week just after his return to the U.S.is a mystery to us as well", KCNA quoted the spokesman as saying. He was released a week later.

President Donald Trump has also suggested that the Obama administration did not do enough to secure Warmbier's release. In his memoir, Not Forgotten: The True Story of My Imprisonment in North Korea, he said how one interrogator kept telling him: "No one remembers you".

Fred and Cindy Warmbier watch as their son Otto, is placed in a hearse after his funeral, Thursday, June 22, 2017, in Wyoming, Ohio.

It comes on the heels of the death of American student Otto Warmbier, who arrived in the United States last week in a coma after being detained for 17 months in North Korea.

The spokesman also said that "groundless" speculation of torture and beatings could be refuted by American doctors who came to the North to examine Warmbier before his release and allegedly acknowledged that North Korean doctors had "brought him back alive" after his heart almost stopped.

"I was just so happy to see the kid released", Rodman told ABC News in an interview.

Rodman said he didn't meet with North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-Un, during his most recent visit, but considered him a friend and has spent time with him in the past.

But Chris Volo, Rodman's agent, told Strahan, "I know being there had something to do with it..." Because when I was organizing the trip ... and I meet with the delegates here, you know, I addressed...

He was sent to his home in OH on Tuesday, June 13, on "humanitarian grounds", but died just six days later having been sent home in a coma.

The US President risked being tricked by opponents into applying pressure on Beijing, the daily tabloid said.

I'm not a fan of the Obama administration but this is just pure propaganda. We jumped up and down ... All right man, all right.

The Foreign Ministry statement also criticized South Korea, which had called on the North to release its other detainees including six South Koreans. His family blames the North Korean authorities for his death.

The death of an American college student due to his barbaric treatment while being held for 17 months in North Korea serves as another example of that rogue country's disregard for acceptable norms of worldwide behavior. "I love America", Rodman said.
