Millions of Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter

Many old religions had a Spring Goddess who lived in what is now Germany and knew her as Eastre.

"I really do believe that God is love, one of deep affection and grace and forgiveness and inspiration".

"Today, the Church continues to say: 'Stop, Jesus is risen'". "Because of this resurrection, we can have life instead of death; vitality instead of lack of energy; hope instead of despair and victory instead of defeat".

One can argue that this day, Easter Sunday, represents a day that is in many ways far more important and far-reaching than a day that had them gathered in the church pews only a few months ago - that being Christmas Day. As Christians, we should be celebrating the one and only true and living God, and understand that Jesus came to Earth and died for our sins so that we may have eternal and abundant life.

"For all Catholics in the Rio GrandeValley, Easter Sunday is the day the church calls us together to celebrate what God has done for us along with the renewal of our baptismal promises".

"If Jesus is alive, it means that everything he said he was to do for you, he did them all", the clergyman noted.

"...who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God". He came to raise the dead things to life - to bring a resurrection to your life.

It is not His birth nor His death - although significant - that makes Jesus Christ unique.

In Western Christianity, Easter will always fall between March 22 and April 25.A council of Christian bishops was convened by Roman Emperor Constantine I in AD 325, the First Council of Nicea, which was Christianity's first effort to get a consensus on what the church taught.

Pastor Aaron Smith: As a pastor, I do my very best to just be me.

Where do you see Jesus?

For 2,000 years Easter is accompanied by holy fire, which inexplicably lights up in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, Israel. It is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.

Easter Sunday celebration marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ, three days after he was crucified. Before you read any further, do you know the answer? Let him catch the revelation of Jesus in his resurrection. That first day of the week is the day that we worship.

The Rev. Billy Graham summed up the message of Easter well when he said, "God proved his love on the cross".
